In order to qualify for a Health Physicist, GS-1306-11 position, you must meet the following Basic Education Requirements: Have a Bachelor’s or higher degree in natural science or engineering that included at least 30 semester hours in health physics, engineering, radiological science, chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics, and/or calculus. OR Have a combination of directly related education and experience – courses as shown above, plus appropriate experience or other education; or certification as a health physicist by the American Board of Health Physics, plus appropriate experience and other education that provided an understanding of sciences applicable to health physics comparable to that described above. In addition to the Basic Education Requirement above, in order to qualify for a Health Physicist position at the GS-1306-11 level you must meet one of the following: Have 3 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree in a related field. OR Have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: 1) conducting assigned aspects of a health physics program involving radiation safety operations and issues; 2) recognize, evaluate, and control radiation safety hazards within established regulations, policies, and procedures; 3) planning and executing complex health physics scenarios; and 4) using NRC and other applicable federal regulations and licensing procedures. OR Have a combination of post baccalaureate education in a related field, and experience that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position. You will receive credit for all experience material to the position, including experience gained in religious, civic, welfare, service, and organizational activities, regardless of whether you received pay.
