In order to be qualified for this position, you must meet one of the following basic requirements: For the 0482 Series (Fish Biologist), you must possess a Bachelor’s or higher degree with a major in biological science that includes: At least 6 semester hours in aquatic subjects such as limnology, ichthyology, fishery biology, aquatic botany, aquatic fauna, oceanography, fish culture, or related courses in the field of fishery biology. AND At least 12 semester hours in the animal sciences in such subjects as general zoology, vertebrate zoology, comparative anatomy, physiology, entomology, parasitology, ecology, cellular biology, genetics, or research in these fields. OR Combination of education and experience of courses equivalent to a major in biological science (i.e., at least 30 semester hours), of which a minimum of 6 semester hours were in aquatic subjects and 12 semester hours were in the animal sciences, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. For the 0486 Series (Wildlife Biologist), you must possess a Bachelor’s or higher degree with a major in biological science that includes: At least 9 semester hours in such wildlife subjects as mammalogy, ornithology, animal ecology, wildlife management, or research courses in the field of wildlife biology. AND At least 12 semester hours in zoology in such subjects as general zoology, invertebrate zoology, vertebrate zoology, comparative anatomy, physiology, genetics, ecology, cellular biology, parasitology, entomology, or research courses in such subjects (Excess courses in wildlife biology may be used to meet the zoology requirements where appropriate.) AND At least 9 semester hours in botany or the related plant sciences. OR Combination of education and experience of courses equivalent to a major in biological science (i.e., at least 30 semester hours), with at least 9 semester hours in wildlife subjects, 12 semester hours in zoology, and 9 semester hours in botany or related plant science, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition, you must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the federal service providing technical assistance related to wildlife, hydrology, coastal ecology, air quality and GIS which includes: Implementing laws, policies, guidelines and regulations for natural resource protection, conservation, and management which includes: Planning, implementing and evaluating actions for ecological resource management; directing a program of wildlife biology; providing technical assistance and developing programs, implementing laws, policy, guidelines, directives, regulations, and other requirements relevant to the field of natural resource protection, conservation, and management; applying management and supervisory skills in evaluating workload and utilizing staff resources to develop performance standards; determining project objectives, goals, timetables, schedules, milestones, and staffing needs. PLEASE NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts or a complete list of college courses taken that identifies each course, college or university, semester or quarter hour earned, grade received, and date completed. If you fail to submit, your application will not be considered, and you will be rated ineligible. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 for each federal position listed as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of qualifying experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. For all other applicants who are not current federal employees, your resume must state either “full-time” (or “40 hours a week”) or “part-time” with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience. Failure to adequately provide information needed to determine number of hours worked in each position may result in that time not being credited when evaluating qualifying experience. For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the full and/or part-time hours requirement as the service dates will be reflected. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
This position is located in the Natural Resources Division, Resource Stewardship and Science directorate at the Interior Region 1 – North Atlantic Appalachian Regional Office. The position is location negotiable, but management hopes to fill this position in the Northeast Region of the United States.
