EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: (OPM Operating Manual, Qualification Standards for Technical and Medical Support Positions, and Individual Occupational Requirements for GS-0186; Social Services Aid and Assistant Series). Individual Occupational Requirements Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-4 and above). SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS-5: I have at least one year of full-time specialized experience or the equivalent, comparable to at least the GS-4 grade level in the Federal Service (obtained in either the public or private sector). This specialized experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-04 level in the Federal service as described in the vacancy announcement. Examples Include: Group leader in community or residential recreation or training programs; Counselor in a youth summer camp; Instructor in a training program for the development of job skills; Work that demonstrated the ability to be responsible for and to lead and train members of a job crew; Group activities leader in the Armed Services; Unit leader-monitor-proctor for a dormitory group in a boarding school or other residential facility; Aid or assistant to professional or specialist staff in such fields as personnel (private or government), employment guidance in a vocational or academic institution, social service, or manpower development; Aid or assistant to professional or associate staff engaged in work of a social services nature in private, public welfare, government program, or community organizations, or in voluntary activities; Aid or assistant to professional or specialist staff working with individuals who are addicted to or abuse alcohol and/or drugs. OR I have successfully completed a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor’s degree that (a) included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of subjects directly related to the work of the position; (b) included a major in social behavior, human behavior, or health care or; (c) was supplemented by experience in activities that afforded the opportunity to acquire and demonstrate the skills required by the position. (The supplementary experience may have been gained, for example, in part-time or summer employment, in volunteer social welfare or recreation programs, or in community organizations.) SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS-6: I have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sector) which includes work involving applying practical knowledge of a wide range of social casework, family therapy, systems theory and community organization; direct provision of child welfare services, maintaining active agency participation in the varied advocacy and intervention programs and the coordination of and required cooperation with allied social services, health and other agencies; providing counseling services; developing and maintaining a formalized case management system which documents the workflow of case services with individual case plans; provides technical assistance on all aspects of social services programs and activities. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS-7: I have at least one year of full-time specialized experience or the equivalent, comparable to at least the GS-6 grade level (obtained in either the public or private sector). This experience is work involved in social welfare or employment and training programs; assistant to professional or associate staff engaged in work of a social services nature in private, public welfare, government program or community organizations or in voluntary services; employment guidance in a vocational or academic institution, social services of manpower development. These examples are not all inclusive (refer to the summary of duties for specialized experience). OR EDUCATION: One full year of graduate education directly related to the work of the position meets the requirement. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Merit Promotion candidates must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the announcement closing date. Preference in filling vacancies is given to qualified Indian candidates in accordance with the Indian Preference Act of 1934 (title 25, USC Section 472). Additional selections may be made from this announcement if identical vacancies occur in the same location within 90 days from the closing date.
