Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Roads Maintenance Worker without more than normal supervision. Perform common Roads Maintenance Worker tasks such as patching holes and worn places in asphalt pavement, repairing fences, and painting crosswalks. Work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. – Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Selective Placement Factor: This position has a selective placement factor which must be met prior to employment and for continued employment. This position requires a valid Class B Commerical Driver’s License (CDL). NOTE: You MUST submit a copy of your Class B CDL with your application package or you will be rated ineligible. Physical Effort: Perform heavy lifting in carrying materials. Required to stand and bend while working and to climb ladders and scaffolds. Heavy physical effort is used by the operator in constantly reaching, bending, turning, and moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to handle different sets of controls to operate the equipment and attachments. Considerable strain is caused by the constant vibration of the equipment and the jerking and jolting from operating over rough surfaces. Because of the location of some of the controls and attachments, the operator is frequently required to work in awkward or strained positions. Working Conditions: Work inside and outside. Will be exposed to dirt, dust, and soot in part of work. Some work is performed in all types of weather, often in an open driver’s seat or platform, on hills, slopes, grades, rolling surfaces, and forests. The operator is exposed to injury due to the possibility of the equipment overturning. Subject to noise, vibration, dust dirt, and fumes from the motor and exhaust. May be required to wear and/or use protective equipment in accordance with established health and safety regulations and standard operating procedures.
