KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out(s) listed in the following areas: Ability to do the work of the Lineman without more than normal supervision (SCREEN-OUT) Knowledge of electrical equipment. Theory and Instruments (Electrical, Electronic) Used in Shop and Trade Practices. Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic). Ability To Use Electrical Drawings. Ability to Use and Maintain Hand Tools (Electrical Work). Trouble shooting (electrical). To qualify for this Lineman (Electric Power) position, you must meet ALL of the following: Have the ability to perform the work of a Lineman (High Voltage Lineman) without more than normal supervision performing routine installation, maintenance, and repairs on High Voltage electric transmission or distribution lines. Work must reflect experience with underground installation, wood pole, steel tower lines and maintenance work on lines of 12.5 kV or higher. Possess a current, valid U.S. State issued Commercial Driver’s License (CDL – Class A) in order to drive and operate U.S. government owned and leased vehicles and equipment Have completed either 1.) a 4-year Lineman Apprenticeship program approved by the U.S. Department of Labor or 2.) 8,000 hours of electrical type training equivalent to such a program to perform the task of a Lineman for an electrical utility industry. Physical effort: Work under conditions of continuing high physical demand related to climbing and frequent lifting of items weighing over fifty pounds in order to install, inspect, and repair transmission and underground/overhead distribution lines. Works in the air on poles and metal structures, or at ground level, and in trenches. Work requires bending, stooping, climbing, and standing for long periods. Coordination of eyes, hands, legs, and body is needed in installing and repairing equipment in confined spaces and on overhead structures. Candidates must be able to distinguish between various color coded cable wires or pairs. Working Conditions: Subject to extremes of weather conditions including dust and lightning storms, high winds and temperature range of near freezing to 120 degrees F while in close proximity to high voltage lines and equipment. Work requires extensive pole climbing at heights up to 75 feet and climbing steel towers up to 150 feet. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
