To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS for GS-04: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of general experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: any progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that demonstrates: Analytical skills. Medical records specialists must interpret medical documentation to assess diagnoses, which they then code into a patient’s medical record. Detail oriented. Medical records specialists must be precise about verifying and coding patient information. Integrity. Medical records specialists must exercise discretion and act ethically when working with patient data to protect patient confidentiality, as required by law. Interpersonal skills. Medical records specialists need to discuss patient information, discrepancies, and data requirements with physicians, finance personnel, and other workers involved in patient care and recordkeeping. (OR) Two years of education above the high school level. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. (OR) Combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualification s for this position. The total percentage must equal at least 100% to qualify an applicant for the GS-4 level. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS for GS-05 Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level that equipped me with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. Examples include performing a variety of medical records tasks, developing, maintaining and monitoring special registries, assembling, analyzing, abstracting, reporting, maintaining, and extracting medical records information. Organizing and checking medical records for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with regulatory requirements. Using automated records systems. (OR) Four years of education above the high school level (OR) Combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for GS-05 grade level. General Experience is progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. Specialized Experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA’s) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
The work is to perform data entry and recordkeeping tasks. Enters patient details into electronic health records (EHR) systems. Maintain and retrieve records for insurance reimbursement and data analysis. GS-04 gains experience to full performance level of GS-05 once qualifications requirements met.
