PUBLIC AFFAIRS SPECIALIST

GENERAL EXPERIENCE is experience, education or training in administrative, professional, investigative and/or technical work. Experience evaluating information and/or using analytical skills to disseminate effective communication. Experience in compiling reports, letters, memoranda, etc., and required person-to-person contacts to convey information. Experience using computers and automation systems. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE / EDUCATION To qualify for this position, you must meet the Specialized Experience, Education, or a combination of both as described below: Specialized Experience – Must have at least 1-year specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, GS 09. Experience, education, or training involving a thorough knowledge of writing and communication principles, methods and techniques that relate to public affairs of the military. Experience developing new information materials including news releases, fact sheets, brochures, booklets, broadcast spots, etc., that increase communication with the agency’s audiences. Experience making on-the-spot presentations to audiences with opposing points of view or erroneous understanding of agency positions. Experience responding timely and appropriately to requests for information concerning agency programs and services. Examples of specialized experience includes: Assists in the formulation of long-range plans and policies to enhance public understanding, support and acceptance of Public Affairs programs and/or activities statewide. Researches and develops informational materials and complete communication campaigns for release to audiences through electronic and newspaper media. Responds to media requests for information of both a routine and controversial nature. Provides training on PA program policies, practices and processes. Experience, education, or training involving a thorough knowledge of writing and communication principles, methods and techniques that relate to public affairs of the military. Experience developing new information materials including news releases, fact sheets, brochures, booklets, broadcast spots, etc., that increase communication with the agency’s audiences. Education – Possess a Ph.D, an equivalent doctoral degree, or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree. NOTE: In order to be considered for this position using education as a basis of qualification, you must submit a copy of your transcripts. Combination – A combination of Specialized Experience and Education as described above. Only graduate education in excess of that required for a Master’s degree or equivalent may be used when combining education and experience to meet the total qualification requirements. NOTE: In order to qualify for this position using a combination of experience and education, you must submit a copy of your transcripts. **In order to use education as a substitution for experience or as a combination of experience and education, you must submit a copy of your transcripts. If submitting transcripts from foreign universities/colleges, you are required to submit a credential evaluation from a private U. S. organization that interprets your foreign education or degree. To be acceptable for Federal employment, foreign education must be equivalent to education or degrees acquired at accredited colleges, universities, or educational institutions in the United States. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Resume must have complete dates and hours worked per week for each occurrence of both civilian and military employment (Example: 2 JAN 1980 to 3 MAR 1981; 0800-1630 M-F or JAN 1980 to MAR 1981; 40 hrs/wk) Use of year only will result in disqualification.
