You must meet the Specialized Experience to qualify for Medical Treatment Specialist, as described below. Specialized Experience is the experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA’s) to perform the duties of the position successfully, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level. For the GS-7: Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, GS-5, in the Federal Service. Qualifying specialized experience for GS-7 includes: Working with health care billing and codes. Working with medical coding systems. Responding to oral and written inquiries regarding medical or billing issues. or 1 full year of graduate level education or Superior academic achievement or A combination of education and experience For GS-9: Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, GS-7, in the Federal Service. Qualifying specialized experience for GS-9 includes: Working with health care billing and codes. Working with medical coding systems. Responding to oral and written inquiries regarding medical or billing issues. Resolving issues or problems of a procedural or factual nature in order to make decisions on medical bills or master’s or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related or A combination of graduate education and experience.
This position is located in the U.S. Department of Labor, Office of Workers Compensation Programs (OWCP), Division of Federal Employees, Longshore Harbor Workers Compensation (DFELHWC), Federal Employees Compensation, Branch of Fiscal Operations, (BFO). The BFO supports the DFELHWC mission by formulating, controlling, and monitoring financial operations including medical authorizations, bill payment and related fiscal practices.
