Airway Transportation Systems Specialist (NAVAIDS)

There is no timeframe requirement at the Level IV/FV-I to compete. Candidates must show experience at the level of difficulty and responsibility that is appropriate to the position. Experience that demonstrates knowledge and experience in one or more of the following systems(s) and service: NAVAIDS: Localizer (LOC), Glide Slope (GS), Locator Outer Marker (LOM), Very high frequency Omni-directional Range (VOR), Tactical Air Navigation (TACAN), Distance Measuring Equipment (DME) and Terminal Navigation Landing Service (TNLS). Ability to lead other specialists through formal and informal training. Ability to conduct ground team during flight inspection. Knowledge of flight inspection references and required documentation for ground-based navigational equipment. Generally, experience at the next lower level Pay Band H/level III or FG/GS-12 or equivalent, meets the minimum qualifications for this position as long as the experience supports the demonstrated abilities identified below. Airway Transportation Systems Specialists (ATSS) at this level are recognized as the subject matter expert in their field. All duties of an ATSS are tied to maintaining safe and efficient operating capacity of the vast and complex network of electronics systems required for the worlds largest air traffic control and navigation system. ATSS personnel install, evaluate, maintain, modify and certify facilities, services and equipment that support the National Airspace System (NAS).
