To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Health Aid and Technician Series 0640 (opm.gov) Individual Occupational Requirements Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-4 and above): Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled. In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-5: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-4 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: preparing surgical set-ups; performing sterilization and decontamination functions; testing equipment for use; handling and preparing specimens obtained during surgery. Or, successfully completed a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor’s degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position. Or, possess a combination of education and experience. GS-6: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: providing surgical assistance; performing procedures such as suctioning, holding retractors, applying skin staples, and cutting sutures. GS-7: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 grade level obtained in either the private or public sector performing monitoring and maintaining aseptic technique throughout procedures; coordinate or participate in the positioning of patients, using body stabilizing equipment or protective padding to provide appropriate exposure for the procedure or protection; and maintaining an unobstructed operative field, using surgical retractors, sponges, or suctioning and irrigating equipment. Or, one (1) full year of graduate education in an area of study directly related to the work of this position. Or, a combination of education and specialized experience listed above. One (1) year of graduate education is equivalent to 18 semester hours unless the school has determined otherwise. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
This position is located at the Belcourt Service Unit in Belcourt, North Dakota in the Central Services Section and the Surgery Department. The purpose of this position is to provide technical assistance to surgeons during surgery and to provide packaging and sterilization services in support of hospital services. Additionally, this position orders selected surgical supplies for all hospital departments.
