In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Technical and Medical Support Positions, Recreation Aid and Assistant Series 0189 GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least six (6) months of general experience which involves duties and responsibilities that provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position. This experience demonstrates the ability to perform the work of the position or is experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation. OR EDUCATION: Successfully completed 1 year of schooling above high school in any area of study. NOTE: YOU MUST SUBMIT A COPY OF YOUR TRANSCRIPTS IF USING EDUCATION SUBSTITUTION FOR EXPERIENCE. OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of basic rules, procedures or operations. 2. Skill in applying basic occupational theory, principles, concepts, and practices sufficient to perform assignments. 3. Ability to follow instructions and guidance to complete assigned tasks and communicate information to others in oral or written format. 4. Ability to analyze problems, identify significant factors, gather and interpret pertinent data, and apply established rules and procedures in order to recommend effective solutions. 5. Ability to learn and apply basic investigative techniques to accomplish work in the subject-matter field. Ability to promote and foster effective working relationships with others to interact effectively and appropriately with the children/youth and ensure effective communication with parents. 6. Ability to gather and analyze basic facts, information, and data, and draw conclusions. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

The primary purpose of this position is: To provide appropriate and effective educational and recreational activities and instruction for children/youth in the School-Age Care Program, Youth Program and Sports Program. In addition, performs basic oversight and supervision for children/youth 5-18 years of age.
