To qualify for this position you must meet the following requirements. Specialized Experience: You must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-11) in the Federal Service, that is directly related to the work of the position and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties as a Program Specialist – Events Planner. Qualifying specialized experience is defined as providing overall coordination, planning and execution of special events; developing and maintaining the local community and sponsor relationships related to supporting events and for the overall budget of special events. You will be rated on the following Competencies as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position: Analytical Reasoning Communication Planning and Evaluating Project Management Standards IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary, and usually accomplished while seated at a desk, some slight physical effort may be required. The normal daily environment is sedentary although some slight physical effort may be required. As the event date approaches, irregular hours and overtime is likely to occur. The incumbent must be flexible to the demands and be able to function under pressure of extreme deadlines. This position supports the National Veterans Golden Age Games (NVGAG), to support the local planning and organization for the host site of National Veterans Sports Programs and Special Events (NVSP&SE) Programs. The Golden Age Games is a national program that provides Veterans opportunities to engage in rehabilitative sport and recreation opportunities. The position is at the Lt. Col. Luke Weathers, Jr. VA Medical Center in Memphis, TN.
