Your resume must demonstrate at least 6 months of general experience and 6 months of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-03 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector that involved the protection of property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; or maintaining order and protecting life. Such experience must have provided knowledge of protective systems and techniques. Examples of specialized experience may include: Prohibiting unauthorized personnel from accessing secured areas to maintain security. Allowing entrance to persons and vehicles with proper authorizations. Monitoring and authorizing the entrance and departure of employees, visitors, and other persons to guard against theft and maintain security of premises. Confirming facilities, locks, alarms, fences, gates, or other barriers are closed/locked or open/unlocked depending on the time of day and the conditions that apply. Monitoring alarms for the safety of personnel, equipment, and facilities. Assessing visitor needs to make recommendations based on visitor input. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
