In addition to the basic entry education requirements, you must have specialized experience and/or directly related education as described below: To qualify for the GS-07 level, you must have one of the following: 1 year of full-time* specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 level defined as Provide support to technical experts on difficult or complex issues associated with a variety of industrial hygiene and safety functions. 1 year of graduate-level education; or superior academic achievement (Superior Academic Achievement Definition); the education must be directly related and provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position equivalent combination of education and experience To qualify for the GS-09 level, you must have one of the following: 1 year of full-time* specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level defined as Provide support to technical experts on difficult or complex issues associated with a variety of industrial hygiene and safety functions and/or has knowledge of chemicals and work practices affecting employee health and safety and/or partners with stakeholders to develop solutions to health and safety problems. 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master’s degree; or master’s or equivalent graduate degree; the education must be directly related and provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position equivalent combination of education and experience NOTE: 1 year of full-time graduate education is the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study; if that number cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours is considered an academic year of graduate study. Your answers to the online assessment will be used to evaluate your competencies in the following areas: Skill in applying, concepts, principles, and methodologies of the industrial hygiene or the consumer safety fields sufficient to conduct routine of occupational health inspections or portions of complex work sites and field locations. Ability to provide technical information to non-technical audiences and provide solutions in an easy to understand format. Ability to to recognize environmental factors and stresses associated with complex work operations, and to ascertain their effects on the health and well-being of workers. Skill in using quantitative measurement techniques for evaluating the magnitude of environmental stresses and their effects on health, well-being, and efficiency of staff. Knowledge and ability necessary to, implement and document a comprehensive health and safety program with guidance and oversight from Safety Health Environmental Management Policy (SHEMP) Manager. Knowledge of safety and health and environmental compliance and stewardship requirements and practices necessary to complete assignments and identify areas for improvement. Skill in maintaining and updating records in accordance with record schedules. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. This position is in Region 7, Mission Support Division, Security, Safety, and Facilities Management Branch. About Region 7.
