Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. To qualify for GS-13, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal service: Leading or providing support in the completion of daily tasks within machine shop operations to include: programming and operation of multi-axis, computer numerical control (CNC) metal fabrication machines, or producing aerospace components and test articles; Supporting the execution of projects related to at least one of the following: facilities, equipment, lifting and rigging of large test articles, metal fabrication, airframe modification and repair, machining or installing instruments; Communicating with various audiences (e.g. researchers, technicians, senior leaders, internal or external customers) to provide guidance, status updates, or assistance. Serves as a Lead Technician in the Manufacturing Applications Branch at Langley Research Center (LaRC) responsible for planning, estimating, scheduling, and expediting the fabrication of one-of-a-kind unique test articles. Has expertise in the fabrication of metallic components using conventional and numerical control machining equipment for the fabrication of hardware for aerospace and scientific programs at LaRC.
