You must meet the Specialized Experience to qualify for Chief – Safety, Health & Emergency Operations, as described below. For GS-15: Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level GS-14 in the Federal Service. Specialized Experience is the experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA’s) to perform the duties of the position successfully, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level. Qualifying specialized experience for GS-15 includes: Experience in the interpretation of federal government policies, regulations, directives, program objectives, and missions of various organizations serviced. Experience in the application of management principles and techniques to provide direction to a staff performing duties associated with safety and health, emergency management and physical security services for numerous agencies. Skill in communicating effectively, both orally and in writing to convey recommendations to the agencies serviced. Skill in the analysis of problems and the application of sound judgment to make recommendations or decisions for resolution of problems within customers’ organizations. Experience in the use of supervisory/management techniques to direct a staff providing critical guidance to officials.
The position is in the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL), Office of the Assistant Secretary for Administration and Management (OASAM), Office of Field Operations (OFO). This position oversees the Safety, Health & Emergency Operations Division and provides leadership and support for emergency preparedness and continuity planning, physical security, and employee safety and health. This position is Supervisory and outside the bargaining unit.
