To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Individual Occupation Requirements Specialized ExperienceFor positions at GS-4 and above: (a) Technical medical laboratory support work such as performing laboratory tests and examinations (chemical, microbiologic, hematologic and blood banking) and preparing reports of findings or (b) technical support work in a closely related field, e.g., biological laboratory technician work, that required application of the methods and techniques for the position to be filled. In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum Qualifications for GS-06: 1 Year of Specialized Experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 Grade Level. Specialized Experience is defined as experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA’s) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Examples include: Performing calibration, preventative maintenance and diagnostic troubleshooting of laboratory equipment; technical medical laboratory support work such as performing laboratory tests and examinations (chemical, microbiologic, hematologic and blood banking) and preparing reports of findings; technical support work in a closely related field, e.g., biological laboratory technician work that required application of the methods and techniques for the position of Medical Technician. Minimum Qualifications for GS-07: 1 Year of Specialized Experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 Grade Level. Examples include: Performing calibration, preventative maintenance and diagnostic troubleshooting of laboratory equipment; preparing solutions, stains, reagents and media required for performing tests and examinations; technical medical laboratory support work such as performing laboratory tests and examinations (chemical, microbiologic, hematologic and blood banking) and preparing reports of findings; or technical support work in a closely related field, e.g.,biological laboratory technician work that required application of the methods and techniques for the position of Medical Technician. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
Serves as a Medical Technician in the clinical laboratory of the USPHS Indian Hospital at Cass Lake, MN. The technician has the responsibility, under the supervision and guidance of the Supervisory Clinical Laboratory Scientist and/or a Clinical Laboratory Scientist, for performing a variety of procedures to include complex analysis of specimens, using as well as maintaining and troubleshooting equipment and setting up and monitoring quality control by using detailed instructions/guidelines.
