FIREFIGHTER (ADVANCED EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN)

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Individual Occupational Requirements for Fire Protection and Prevention series, 0081 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level (or other equivalent pay systems) in federal service which equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA’s) to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience is experience which may have been gained while inspecting areas of high expectancy and potential fire severity involving unusual hazards which can result in controversial decisions concerning the appropriateness of fire protection/prevention systems. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: KEY- The duties of this position meets all requirements as a category 4 designation, and shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization without seriously impairing the capability of the parent Federal Agency or office to function effectively. This position must be removed from the Ready Reserve and CAN NOT become a member of the Ready Reserve. Must pass an initial pre-employment medical examination, periodic medical examinations, required physical fitness/physical agility tests, meet established hearing standards and discern colors, contrast, and depth. The incumbent must immediately report to his supervisor any significant medical threshold shifts in health status and/or medication requirements.
The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a Firefighter/Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) assigned to a crew engaged in airfield, structural firefighting, crash-rescue operations and assist in reducing and/or eliminating potential fire hazards to protect persons, property, or the environment and following protocols and providing intermediate or enhanced levels of life support.
