AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL SPECIALIST

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Must possess at least a High school or general equivalent degree? An undergraduate academic specialization in a technical discipline with courses in administration and management is desirable. Also, do you possess a graduate of a formal DoD/Department of Transportation (DOT) Basic Air Traffic Control course. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must possess at least Twelve (12) months of experience equivalent to at least GS-09 or GS-10? ~OR~ Do you possess at least Thirty-Six (36) months of experience performing regular duties in terminal operations, issuing control instructions to aircraft operating under visual or instrument flight rules or combinations of both; experience in a military or civilian as an Air Traffic Controller in a single ATC facility-rated control tower air traffic facility; in briefing shift personnel on runway utilization, airfield conditions and weather/ground activities; preparing and updating flight following maps; and in performing some shift supervision duties in a tactical or fixed tower, radar, or AIC? ~AND~ Are you able to obtain and maintain a facility-rating in a single ATC facility (Radar Final Control (RFC)/Ground Controlled Approach (GCA)/Control Tower (CTO). Certification: Must possess a valid Air Traffic Control Specialist Certificate and/or Control Tower (CTO) Certificate. Certification: Must possess or able to obtain a valid Limited Aviation Weather Reporting Stations (LAWRS) certification within 154 training days of hire. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT & NOTES: 1. Applicants must possess a valid Air Traffic Control Specialist Certificate and/or Control Tower (CTO) Certificate. 2. Must be facility-rated in all assigned facilities, and maintain proficiency. 3. Must meet and maintain on a continuing basis, the physical and mental qualification standards established by the FAA, USA, and NGB for Air Traffic Control duty. 4. Work may require access to classified information. Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance. 5. Is subject to the special retirement provisions for Air Traffic Controllers under CSRS and FERS, 5 USC 3382, Involuntary Separation for Retirement; 5 USC 8335(a) and 8425(a), Mandatory Separation; 5 USC 8336(e) and 8412(e), Immediate Retirement; and 5 USC 8339(e) and 8415(d), Computation of Annuity. 6. Meets the definition for premium pay as stated in 5 USC 5546a(a)1. It also meets US OPM definition for Special Rate Table Number 0565 (radar approach control duties); or Special Rate Table Number 0566 (non-radar approach control duties). *7. Irregular and/or overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies or may be required to work hours outside of the normal duty day.
THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This position is located in an Army National Guard (ARNG) Airfield Operations Battalion. This is an Army National Guard (ARNG) Dual Status Technician position requiring military membership, compatible military skill assignment, and classification. DEFINITION OF AREA(S) OF CONSIDERATION: Area 2 = Applicants who are eligible for immediate membership and employment in the Louisiana National Guard.
