Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Basic Requirement for Army Substance Abuse Program Manager: A. Degree: Bachelor’s degree (or higher degree) in behavioral or social science, or related disciplines appropriate to the position, such as psychology, counseling, or social work. OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. OR C. Experience: Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes applying the principles, methods and practices of behavioral/social sciences to evaluate the need for direct services, training, and coordination with other agencies regarding the Suicide Prevention Program and the Substance Abuse Program; developing training materials, methods and techniques for the Suicide Prevention and Army Substance Abuse Program for active duty and civilians members of an installation; briefing senior leadership on matters pertaining to Army Substance Abuse and Suicide Prevention; assisting with inspections of prevention program to ensure technical competency and regulatory requirements are being met. This is the definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Education and Training Managing Human Resources Oral Communication Planning and Evaluating Therapy and Counseling Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
About the Position: Serves as Chief, ASAP (Army Substance Abuse Program), manages and implements the installation program. The ASAP is a program designed to strengthen the overall fitness and readiness of the Armys total workforce and to enhance the combatreadiness of its soldiers by providing services which are responsive to the needs of the total workforce.
