Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic

PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: Incumbent employs a high degree of manual dexterity as some HVAC/R and support equipment are located in relatively inaccessible areas, above ceilings or in crawl spaces. Long periods of standing on ladders or stooping may be necessary. Considerable physical exertion is required when lifting, moving and transporting heavy or awkward equipment. Incumbent must be able to perform for lengthy periods of time in hot, cold or damp areas. Personnel are exposed to hot and cold temperatures for various periods of time. Fumes from refrigerants and other chemicals are a frequent hazard. Exposure to electrical shock, burns, and possible injuries from ruptured refrigeration gas or liquid lines. Cuts, bruises and scratches frequently incurred on hands while working with tools or sheet metal. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualifications. This position is located in the Engineering Service at VA Northeast Ohio Health Care System – Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center in Cleveland, OH. The Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic is responsible for installing, operating, controlling, maintaining, and repairing various Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HAVC/R) systems and supporting equipment.
