BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor’s degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Experience: The work experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. At the GS-9 and above grade level, many positions may require experience in a specialty area of nursing. GS-7 Basic Requirements: Possession of a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and eligibility under the Superior Academic Achievement provision (https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-schedule-qualification-policies/#url=General-Policies); OR Possession of a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and at least one (1) full year of Professional Nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-5 or above): Perform under general supervision and work is reviewed periodically by another RN; Assess and care for the nursing needs of OB patients and other types of patients as assigned; Develop plans of care to meet the needs of assigned patients; Recognize adverse signs and symptoms and react swiftly in emergency situations; basic knowledge of triaging patients; OR Possession of a diploma or associate degree in Nursing in Nursing program and two full years of Professional Nursing experience: Assess and care for the nursing needs of OB patients and other types of patients as assigned; Develop plans of care to meet the needs of assigned patients; recognize adverse signs and symptoms and reacting swiftly in emergency situations; Basic knowledge of triaging patients; plan with minimal assistance in scheduling and providing comprehensive nursing care in the OB Department; OR Completion of at least one (1) full year of graduate education in a professional nursing educational program. GS-9 Basic Requirements: Possession of a Master’s degree in professional nursing; OR Possession of a diploma, associate degree, or bachelor’s degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program and at least one (1) full year of Professional Nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-7 or above): Assess and care for the nursing needs of OB patients and other types of patients as assigned; Develop plans of care to meet the needs of assigned patients; Recognize adverse signs and symptoms and reacting swiftly in emergency situations; Basic knowledge of triaging patients; Plan with minimal assistance in scheduling and providing comprehensive nursing care in the OB Department. GS-10 – Basic Requirements: Possession of a diploma, associate degree, or bachelor’s degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program and at least one full year of Professional Nursing experience: Independently provide nursing care, triage patients, recognize and intervene in acute life-threatening situations, cardiac and respiratory failure management in medical, surgical, and obstetrical patients; Interpret data about the patient’s status in order to identify the patient care needed; Independently plan, schedule and provide comprehensive nursing care in the OB Department.
This is a Direct Hire Open Continuous for Nurse (Obstetrics) and will report to the Supervisory Nurse onsite. Nurse provide direct care to patients of all ages with a variety of responsible nursing care including, but not limited to, neonatal, antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and prenatal health maintenance needs with the majority of these patients considered high-risk.
