To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): General Schedule Qualification Standards In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-04: One (1) year of general experience OR, successfully completed two (2) years of education above the high school level. GS-05: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-4 grade level OR four (4) years above the high school level. GS-06: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level. GS-07: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 grade level. GS-08: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level. General Experience: Progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples of specialized experience at the GS-05 level: Review medical records to gather information on the reasons for admission and length of stay, refer information to quality assurance specialist for accreditation requirement; prepare correspondence and summaries of medical records in response to request; select and assign a principle code along with other codes; ensure the medical record is complete for accuracy. Or, successfully completed four (4) years of education above the high school level. Examples of specialized experience at the GS-06 level: Enter billing transaction codes and data from charge tickets; work with automated records systems, data entry and encoder software; use coding conventions, techniques, coding rules and regulations; maintain confidentiality of medical records. Examples of specialized experience at the GS-07 level: Evaluate the medical record for internal consistency and completeness; responsible for coding the diagnoses, operations and/or procedures from the medical record and entering into the resources and patient management system; assure the final diagnosis and operative procedures as slated by the physician are valid and complete; make final determination that the record is complete, accurate and reflects sufficient data to justify the diagnosis. Examples of specialized experience at the GS-08 level: Accurately assigns and sequences medical codes for all diagnoses, procedures, and services; reviews and assigns accurate current procedural terminology codes; analyzes medical documentation to assure the appropriate evaluation and management levels are assigned; responsible for coding all related ambulatory visits. This position is located in the Indian Health Service, Billings Area, Crow Service Unit, Branch of Health Records Services, Division of Administrative Services at Crow Agency, Montana. The primary purpose of this position is to perform a variety of medical records coding and other medical records functions.
