In order to qualify for this position at the GS-5 level, you must possess the following: Specialized Experience: One (1) full year of specialized experience that equipped you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties the Program Support Assistant at the full performance level (GS-5), and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-4) in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes: experience where you were responsible for providing administrative support; collecting, compiling and tracking data and information; processing documents and reports; establishing, updating and maintaining office files and records; performing automation duties using such software applications such as word processing, spreadsheet, electronic mail, desktop publishing, calendar, database and/or graphics; answering telephones, referring visitors, and providing information. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week. Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Typically, the position sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items such as papers, books or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work. May be required to wear personal protective equipment if applicable. The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms. The work area is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated. Work will be conducted in a safe manner adhering to Medical Center safety policies. Occasional travel is necessary.
The Program Assistant position is located in the Environmental Management Service at the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center, Chicago, IL . The primary purpose of the position is to direct and coordinate the administrative, operational/planning activities internal and external to the service, oversee the budget and conduct comprehensive staffing/organizational analyses of EMS (final authority resting with the Service Chief).
