SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE: Experience that demonstrates knowledge of painting procedures and techniques. Knowledge of standard surface preparation and coating methods and techniques. Skill to sand, wire brush, scrape, spackle and putty surfaces, to brush out, roll on and spray coat materials. Knowledge of staging, scaffolding and ladders, and the skill to use them in a safe and acceptable manner. Skill to make carpentry repairs as necessary. Possession of a valid state driver¿s license. RESPONSIBILITY: Works under general supervision. The majority of the work is performed independently. Personal knowledge determines the methods, techniques, materials and devices best suited to obtain smooth textures and decorative surfaces. Ensures the surface coating meets level and thickness requirements. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Requires prolonged standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Lifts and carries objects up to 45 lbs independently and objects over 45 lbs with assistance. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed inside and outside; including exposure to bad weather, in areas that may vary from clean rooms to areas that are noisy, dirty and smoky. Will be exposed to paint fumes, paint vapors, infrared and ultraviolet radiation, heat, cuts, bruises and possibility of broken bones from falling ladders and scaffolds. May be required to wear protective gear to include facemasks.
