IMPORTANT INFORMATION: This position requires military membership in the Puerto Rico Army National Guard (PRARNG). Area 1 = All permanent Technician Warrant Officers and Enlisted members employee (NG T32/NG T5) within Puerto Rico Army National Guard. Area 2 = All indefinite Technician Warrant Officers and Enlisted members employee (NG T32/NG T5) within Puerto Rico Army National Guard. Area 3 = Warrant Officers and Enlisted currently serving members of the Puerto Rico Army National Guard. Area 4 = Warrant Officers and Enlisted Prior (former) members of the Puerto Rico Army National Guard. Area 6 = Applicants who meet all requirements to become Warrant Officers and Enlisted of the Puerto Rico Army National Guard. (If the MBR certification is not submitted, your application will not be screened). First round consideration will be given to Area 1 Candidates. (All other Areas will be screened only in the event that there are no qualified or recommended Candidates) To prevent a grade inversion, military rank allowed for this position will be determined at the final evaluation of the vacancy announcement considering the military rank of the supervisor. TEMPORARY PROMOTION / INDEFINITE: This position is advertised against a valid man-year of an employee currently on an Active-Duty tour. If the employee does not exercise restoration rights, HRO MUST clear the Department of Defense (DoD) Priority Placement Program (PPP) prior to process the personnel action may become permanent without further competition, upon recommendation of immediate supervisor, or may be terminated at any time by management decision. An applicant selected for an indefinite appointment will occupy a full-time position without a specific time limitation. A technician NG T5 in this type of appointment does not work towards permanent tenure and can be terminated at any time with a 30-day notice. The permanent status of a current permanent employee NG T32 will not change in the event of a selection for a position that is being announced as indefinite. If a current permanent employee is selected, the position will be filled as a Temporary Promotion or a Change to Lower Grade. Employee serving under a temporary promotion may not retain a grade or rate of basic pay held during the temporary promotion. NG T5 employee selected for this position will not have return rights to their former permanent technician position after conversion to NG T32Dual Status. DUTIES: As a SURFACE MAINTENANCE REPAIRER (D1193000),WG-5801-8, you will perform limited diagnosis, routine repairs, and maintenance on combat, tactical, commercial, and special purpose vehicles and equipment. May assist higher graded mechanics in the performance of maintenance duties. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work is performed in tiring or uncomfortable positions for long periods. There is frequent standing, bending, reaching, stretching, climbing, and crouching; or working on top of, under, and in tight compartments or cramped or awkward positions. Performs strenuous work while standing, lying, or sitting. Frequently lifts and carries items, unassisted, weighing up to 40 pounds; and often exerts similar effort in pushing, pulling, and positioning parts, assemblies, and equipment. Frequently lifts and moves heavier items with the assistance of other workers or with lifting devices such as jacks, hoists, and cranes. May be required to work from ladders or work platforms at varying heights. WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed both inside and outside. When inside, the incumbent is frequently exposed to drafts, changing temperatures, and noise which is difficult to talk above. When outside, the incumbent is exposed to bad weather, in mud or snow, and in wet or icy areas. The incumbent is frequently exposed to irritations or discomfort from dust, heat, fumes, and hard damp floors or ground. Typically works on parts and systems, which are dirty, oily, or greasy. Frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts, burns, bruises, and sprains while repairing, positioning, and moving equipment. Often exposed to the possibility of falls while repairing, positioning, and moving equipment, and skin irritations from acid, fluids, and lubricants. Uses safety equipment such as protective ear devices, hard hats, hard-toe shoes, respirators, and protective clothing, which may be uncomfortable to wear or use and may be worn or used for long periods. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience, education or training which demonstrate the candidates has enough knowledge of equipment to be able to do routine jobs, simple preventive maintenance tasks, and is able to use common tools and equipment in the line of work. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicant must possess at least ONE (1) year in the occupational series 5801 or the equivalent TWELVE (12) months of specialized experience performing or supervising duties such as performing limited diagnosis, routine repairs and maintenance on heavy-duty mobile equipment, combat, tactical and automotive vehicles; performing techniques for removing, adjusting, replacing, cleaning, and installing parts and components of combat, tactical, commercial, automotive, special purpose vehicles and equipment; determining when parts should be cleaned, reinstalled, or replaced with standard parts; determining fault for repair or replacement of improperly functioning parts or components; reading and interpreting parts list, manufacturer’s repair manuals, technical manuals, diagrams, engineering drawings, and schematics.
