BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): This standard allows eligibility through meeting either the requirements specified in the section titled Education or the requirements specified in the section titled Experience. Education: All academic degrees and coursework must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions Undergraduate or Graduate Education: Degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks. GS-7: 1 full year of graduate level education OR superior academic achievement GS-9: master’s degree or equivalent graduate degree OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master’s degree or equivalent graduate degree GS-11: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree OR 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree OR Experience Experience must be IT related; the experience may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, IT certification), as appropriate GS-5 through GS-15 (or equivalent): For all positions individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below. The employing agency is responsible for identifying the specific level of proficiency required for each competency at each grade level based on the requirements of the position being filled. Problem Solving – Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. AND Specialized experience Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks for the grade level which you are applying. GS-07: Surveying, analyzing, testing, installing, and upgrading communication equipment (such as computer systems, computer terminals, and utilizing data communications). Soldering, wire crimping, wire stripping, cable laying, connecting and signal testing. Familiar with standard color codes of various types of cables. Identifying and reporting potential major problems in areas of hardware, software, or procurement and installations and recommending possible alternatives. GS-09: Coordinating computer system operations and providing recommendations on system operating procedures, data collection, data quality, and equipment environments. Assisting with the installation of new Automated Data Processing (ADP) technology. Transporting ADP equipment to and from vendor locations for repairs. Providing technical assistance to telecommunication system users when requested. GS-11: Installation of Automated Data Processing (ADP) technology equipment and systems and assuring maximum benefit from managing the system properly. Preparing operational guidelines for new software applications for implementation or testing. Providing evaluation of budget requirements for ADP systems. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
This position is located at the Blackfeet Service Unit in Browning, MT. The position is responsible for Computers and Telecommunications for the Management Information Systems (MIS). The incumbent reports to the IT Site Manager.
