About the Role
This opportunity is for an accomplished and strategic Senior Managing Director to lead the development of innovative, high-quality instructional materials designed to advance learning outcomes and align with state standards. The role oversees the design, alignment, and implementation of curriculum and instructional frameworks across multiple projects while guiding content experts and partnering closely with state and district education leaders.
This senior leadership position combines curriculum and instructional expertise with organizational strategy, large-scale client engagement management, team leadership, and business development. The Senior Managing Director will help shape instructional design strategy, expand curriculum-focused services, and influence teaching and learning initiatives at a systems level.
What You'll Do
Strategic and Organizational Leadership
- Lead curriculum design and content projects, ensuring instructional materials meet rigorous quality standards and align with applicable state frameworks.
- Serve as a key member of the leadership team, helping shape organizational priorities and firmwide strategy while modeling core organizational values.
- Oversee major internal initiatives that strengthen expertise and reputation in curriculum and instruction.
- Contribute to business development by cultivating strategic partnerships, identifying new opportunities, and supporting growth of the client portfolio.
Curriculum Design and Content Expertise
- Lead the design, development, and refinement of curriculum content, instructional materials, and educator resources across multiple grade levels and content areas.
- Ensure content aligns with applicable state standards, incorporates instructional best practices, and reflects diverse perspectives and inclusive learning principles.
- Develop frameworks, templates, and quality assurance systems that maintain consistency and rigor across projects.
- Provide expert guidance to clients and internal teams on curriculum adoption, implementation, and scaling.
- Serve as a thought leader in instructional design and contribute to a strong national presence within the education field.
Client and Project Management
- Manage large-scale client engagements from inception through implementation, including scope, staffing, work plans, budgets, and deliverables.
- Provide strategic counsel to senior education leaders and state agency officials on curriculum quality, standards alignment, and adoption.
- Anticipate client needs, proactively address risks, and maintain seamless communication between internal and client teams.
- Translate complex educational frameworks and research into actionable, client-ready products and recommendations.
People Leadership and Team Development
- Lead curriculum developers, content specialists, and consultants, ensuring projects are delivered on schedule and meet high quality standards.
- Serve as a mentor, coach, and role model while fostering a culture of accountability, constructive feedback, and continuous learning.
- Identify and develop opportunities for collaboration across curriculum, leadership development, and research teams.
Thought Leadership and Knowledge Sharing
- Engage with national and state education networks to stay current on emerging trends, policy developments, and research related to curriculum and instruction.
- Share insights and best practices internally to strengthen service quality and organizational thought leadership.
- Represent the practice publicly as a curriculum design expert through publications, presentations, and professional convenings.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Advanced degree in Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or a related field preferred.
- 12–15+ years of professional experience.
- At least 5 years of experience leading curriculum design, content development, or instructional strategy initiatives at the district, state, or organizational level.
- Demonstrated success managing large-scale curriculum development or standards alignment projects.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and cultivate long-term client partnerships.
- Deep expertise in curriculum design, content development, and instructional standards alignment.
- Strong understanding of the K–12 education landscape, including state standards, assessment systems, and instructional best practices.
- Exceptional communication and facilitation skills, including the ability to present confidently to senior audiences.
- Strong strategic, analytical, and organizational abilities.
- Ability to balance big-picture strategy with hands-on project execution.
