About the Role

This opportunity is for a Senior Full Stack Engineer to take ownership of major platform initiatives from initial concept through architecture, implementation, rollout, and ongoing improvement. The role combines end-to-end product development, TypeScript engineering across the full stack, platform integrations, AI-assisted development, technical mentorship, and architectural decision-making.

You will work closely with product and design partners to translate complex and sometimes ambiguous customer needs into clear, scalable, and shippable solutions. You will own complete product areas, contribute to customer-facing and administrative experiences, and help establish a high standard for engineering quality as the platform scales.

What You’ll Do

Own Large Platform Projects

• Take major features from concept to launch, including scoping, architecture, implementation, and rollout.
• Own complete product areas end to end, including institution administration experiences, faculty tools for configuring AI assistants, and student-facing products.
• Partner with product and design teams to translate ambiguous customer needs into concrete, shippable solutions.

Full-Stack Feature Development

• Build and ship end-to-end features in TypeScript across the client, server, and database.
• Build and extend integrations that connect the platform with systems already used by educational institutions.
• Write performant, strongly typed, well-tested code that is safe to modify and maintain as the platform evolves.

Quality, Performance, and Engineering Craft

• Debug production issues across the full stack, from client-side applications to background services.
• Raise engineering standards for code quality, test coverage, and architectural clarity.
• Partner with DevOps on deployment, observability, and incident response.

AI-Augmented Development

• Use AI coding tools as a regular part of the daily development workflow.
• Scope development work so AI agents can handle tasks they perform effectively while maintaining direct ownership of work that requires engineering judgment.
• Collaborate with AI engineering on AI-facing product features when those features intersect with the broader platform.

Team and Leverage

• Mentor teammates, provide thoughtful code reviews, and contribute to a strong engineering culture.
• Contribute to architectural decisions as the platform scales.
• Communicate clearly and proactively in an asynchronous, distributed work environment.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• Strong full-stack engineering foundation, including systems thinking, debugging, architecture, and the ability to reason effectively about code written by others.
• Deep experience with TypeScript across both frontend and backend development.
• Proven track record of building, shipping, and owning large user-facing features in production web applications.
• Experience working directly with relational databases such as PostgreSQL.
• Strong product mindset with the ability to build cohesive experiences for real users rather than isolated features.
• Strong product intuition and the ability to anticipate how an experience should work before it is shipped.
• Proficiency with AI coding tools as part of a daily software development workflow.
• Ability to use AI-assisted development effectively while maintaining direct ownership of engineering decisions and the resulting work.
• Proactive, self-directed communication skills.
• Ability to manage your own time, meet deadlines, and identify and communicate blockers before they become significant problems.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with modern full-stack React frameworks and server-rendered user interfaces.
• Experience integrating with Learning Management Systems or LTI.
• Familiarity with background workers and durable job-processing systems.
• A track record of building outside of traditional employment, such as starting a company, maintaining an open-source project, or consistently shipping side projects.
• Deep curiosity about artificial intelligence or a strong interest in education.

Education

No degree is required. Practical knowledge, demonstrated skills, and the ability to deliver high-quality engineering work are valued more than where those skills were acquired.
