About the Role
The Head of Finance is responsible for leading the organization's finance function, establishing financial strategy, and building scalable financial infrastructure to support continued growth. This executive-level role partners directly with the CEO to oversee financial planning, capital management, forecasting, board reporting, fundraising activities, accounting operations, treasury, and long-term business planning while developing a high-performing finance organization.
This position requires deep expertise in fintech and payments economics, financial modeling, investor readiness, FP&A, treasury management, and accounting oversight. The successful candidate will establish financial processes, develop reporting frameworks, support executive decision-making, and provide financial leadership across all business functions while managing and growing the finance team.
What You'll Do
Financial Strategy & Capital Planning
- Develop and execute the company's financial strategy, capital planning, forecasting, cash flow management, runway planning, and long-term financial discipline.
- Evaluate investment opportunities and support executive decisions through financial analysis and strategic planning.
Executive & Investor Reporting
- Serve as a strategic advisor to executive leadership on pricing, resource allocation, financial performance, and growth initiatives.
- Prepare board presentations, executive reporting, investor updates, fundraising analyses, and financial narratives.
- Lead fundraising preparation, investor due diligence, and data room management.
FP&A & Financial Modeling
- Build and maintain driver-based financial models covering GMV, TPV, revenue yield, take rate, unit economics, and business performance.
- Develop dashboards, KPI frameworks, financial reporting, and operational performance metrics.
Payments Finance & Treasury
- Analyze payments revenue, interchange, processor costs, network fees, revenue-sharing agreements, merchant profitability, cohort performance, and partner economics.
- Lead treasury operations, liquidity management, reconciliation, and settlement accounting across ACH, RTP, FedNow, wire transfers, and card payment networks.
- Partner with compliance and payments teams on capital requirements and licensing activities.
Financial Operations
- Lead annual budgeting, long-range planning, and recurring forecasting cycles.
- Oversee monthly close, accounts payable, accounts receivable, bookkeeping, treasury activities, and financial reporting.
- Coordinate external audits and manage relationships with auditors, tax advisors, and banking partners.
- Establish accounting policies, internal controls, and financial governance appropriate for a rapidly growing fintech organization.
- Analyze revenue, pricing, operating expenses, merchant economics, and financial trends to improve business performance and operating efficiency.
Leadership
- Manage, mentor, and expand the finance team while establishing scalable financial processes and operating procedures.
- Build a finance organization capable of supporting future company growth and increasing operational complexity.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in finance, FP&A, investment banking, strategic finance, or closely related disciplines.
- Experience working within an early-stage or venture-backed startup, preferably as a founding or first finance leader.
- Hands-on experience leading fundraising processes, investor diligence, board reporting, and financial presentations.
- Exceptional financial modeling, forecasting, analytical, and business planning skills.
- Strong understanding of fintech, payments business models, and operating metrics.
- Experience partnering directly with executive leadership and presenting financial information to boards and investors.
- Proven ability to build scalable financial reporting, planning, and operational processes.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to translate financial insights into business recommendations.
- Experience directing accounting and operational finance activities through a team.
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
- CPA, CFA, or MBA is considered an advantage.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in payments, fintech, SaaS, or embedded finance.
- Knowledge of interchange, network fees, processor pricing models, and revenue-sharing structures.
- Experience with investor relations, corporate development, or fundraising initiatives.
- Experience building and managing a finance team from the ground up.
- Familiarity with Tableau, Power BI, Looker, SQL, or similar business intelligence tools.
