About the Role
This opportunity is for a Senior Product Designer responsible for leading UI/UX design and product design strategy across digital products that communicate complex research through intuitive, engaging user experiences. The role owns end-to-end product design for websites and data dashboards while establishing design direction, improving usability, and delivering responsive interfaces that make sophisticated information accessible to diverse audiences.
You will collaborate closely with executive leadership, communications, web development, research, and design teams while driving UX strategy, user research, design systems, and data visualization initiatives. Success in this role requires strong product thinking, visual design expertise, Figma proficiency, and the ability to lead design projects from concept through delivery.
What You'll Do
- Define and own product design strategy across websites and data products.
- Establish design processes, workflows, and quality standards across the organization.
- Lead end-to-end design projects from problem definition through final delivery.
- Design responsive user interfaces and data visualizations that communicate complex information clearly.
- Conduct user research to better understand audience interests, behaviors, and product usage.
- Create design specifications, wireframes, mock-ups, prototypes, and reusable design assets.
- Contribute to and expand the organization's design library.
- Mentor another designer and support part-time design contributors.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience designing interactive digital products, including experience leading design projects.
- Strong ability to interpret data visualizations and statistical information for non-technical audiences.
- Portfolio demonstrating expertise in UI/UX design and data visualization.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize effectively, and lead design initiatives in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong understanding of typography, color theory, visual hierarchy, and layout design.
- Advanced proficiency with Figma, including Auto Layout and Components.
- Experience establishing, building, or maintaining design systems.
- Familiarity with the organization's research and subject matter.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience communicating scientific or technical research through design.
- Experience with illustration and branding.
- Familiarity with front-end development using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
- Experience using Python visualization libraries such as Matplotlib or Plotly, or similar data visualization tools.
- Strong written communication skills.
