Material handler

Pay: $19.00 - $20.00/hour

Schedule: 1st shift, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM

What this job involves

You’ll support machine shop material handling by loading, unloading, moving, cleaning, labeling, counting, and organizing materials within or near the plant, yard, or work site.

Material handling duties

• Read work orders or follow oral instructions to determine which materials or containers need to be moved.
• Open containers as needed.
• Load and unload materials onto or from pallets, trays, racks, and shelves by hand.
• Install strapping, bracing, or padding to help prevent shifting or damage in transit.
• Move materials from storage or work sites to designated areas.
• Count, weigh, and record units of materials moved or handled on daily production sheets.
• Attach identifying tags or labels to materials.
• Mark information on cases, bales, or other containers.

Shop support tasks

• Operate and maintain a coolant recycling system.
• Lift heavy objects by hand or with a power hoist.
• Clean work areas, machines, tools, and equipment.
• Clean materials by hand or with cleaning equipment.
• Immerse objects in washing and rinsing solutions to remove debris.
• Fill tanks with water to the specified level.
• Add specified soap or chemicals to water.
• Maintain equipment and work areas in clean and orderly condition.

What you’ll need

• High school diploma or GED.
• Up to 1 month of related experience or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Positive attitude.
• Regular and consistent attendance.
• Willingness to learn.
• Ability to follow written, oral, and diagram instructions.
• Ability to keep the work area clean, safe, and orderly.
• Ability to work well with diverse groups or individuals.
• Ability to add and subtract whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to use simple mathematical and geometric devices such as calculators, calipers, scales, and measuring tapes.
• Mandatory WorkKeys Ready requirement.
• WorkKeys ACT scores: Applied Math - 3, Graphic Literacy - 4, Workplace Observation - 2.
