About the Role
This opportunity is for a Mid Level Front End Engineer to develop, maintain, and enhance a consumer-facing web application using React, TypeScript, and Next.js. The position involves building responsive, accessible user interfaces, translating complex financial information into intuitive digital experiences, and owning front-end features throughout the development lifecycle, from initial implementation and design handoff to production release and ongoing optimization.
The role combines hands-on front-end engineering with API integration, automated testing, code review, and close collaboration with product managers and designers. Responsibilities include using AI-assisted development tools to accelerate delivery while independently validating code quality and functionality. The engineer will help improve the consumer application through user feedback, production observations, and continuous refinement of web performance, usability, and reliability.
What You'll Do
- Develop, maintain, and take ownership of a consumer-facing web application built with React, TypeScript, and Next.js.
- Build responsive web interfaces that function effectively across desktop and mobile devices.
- Translate complex financial logic and information into clear, accessible, and trustworthy user experiences.
- Collaborate directly with product and design teams to transform early concepts and design specifications into production-ready user interfaces.
- Own front-end features throughout the development lifecycle, including implementation, testing, release, and post-launch improvements.
- Work with REST or GraphQL APIs to support application functionality and interactions.
- Use AI-assisted development tools to improve engineering efficiency, evaluate generated output, and contribute to improvements in development tooling.
- Test assumptions, verify application behavior, and evaluate delivered features based on real-world outcomes rather than implementation alone.
- Participate in code reviews, maintain high code quality standards, and write meaningful tests to support application reliability.
- Investigate software defects, identify root causes, and implement sustainable fixes.
- Monitor how users interact with released features and make improvements based on observed behavior and feedback.
- Take independent ownership of assigned application components while coordinating with engineering, product, and design stakeholders.
Qualifications
Required Experience
- Approximately 3 or more years of professional experience building and delivering production web applications using React and TypeScript.
- Practical experience developing user-facing web interfaces and supporting features through implementation, testing, and release.
- Experience working with REST or GraphQL APIs in web application development.
- Experience incorporating testing into regular software development workflows.
Required Skills
- Strong working knowledge of React and TypeScript for modern front-end application development.
- Solid proficiency in HTML and CSS, including the ability to create responsive interfaces optimized for both mobile and desktop devices.
- Ability to develop and maintain user-facing functionality within a modern web application environment that uses Next.js.
- Practical understanding of API integration and working with REST or GraphQL services.
- Ability to write meaningful tests, verify software functionality, and identify and resolve defects through root-cause investigation.
- Ability to evaluate technical assumptions, validate implementation results, and maintain code quality throughout the development process.
- Interest in using and improving AI-assisted software development tools while maintaining independent responsibility for technical accuracy and quality.
- Ability to work independently, take ownership of features, and collaborate effectively with product, design, and engineering teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong visual design judgment and familiarity with Figma.
- Previous experience implementing web accessibility standards, including WCAG.
Initial Responsibilities and Milestones
- First Two Weeks: Complete development environment setup, become familiar with engineering workflows, and deliver an initial production change.
- First Month: Take ownership of a feature from design handoff through development and production release.
- First 90 Days: Establish ownership of a meaningful component or functional area within the consumer-facing application.
Benefits
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage.
- 401(k) retirement plan.
- Paid time off and parental leave.
- Home office setup stipend.
- Remote-first work environment with the ability to work from anywhere in the United States.
