QA Engineer - Mortgage
United States
Location: United States
Pay: $130K - $180K
Work model: Remote
Position summary
This is a foundational QA role focused on mortgage software quality. You will test end-to-end loan workflows, catch defects before customers do, and help shape release readiness as the first dedicated QA person on the team. The role is embedded with Engineering and Product and has the potential to grow into QA leadership.
What you'll work on
- Test UIs and workflows end-to-end by running real loan scenarios through the product the way a processor, underwriter, or closer would.
- Find defects such as visual glitches, broken validations, workflow dead-ends, incorrect calculations, data that does not persist, integration issues, and edge cases that appear under real mortgage conditions.
- Write clear, reproducible bug reports with exact steps, the loan scenario, expected versus actual behavior, and screenshots or recordings.
- Build and maintain a regression test suite that combines manual test cases with lightweight automated scripts using Playwright, Cypress, or similar tools.
- Own pre-release verification, sign off on changes that are ready to ship, and flag issues that are not ready.
- Partner with Engineering and Product in design reviews, release sign-off, and bug triage so features are testable and correct by design.
- Define QA SOPs, bug severity rubrics, release checklists, and quality metrics for future team members.
- Hire, train, and lead the QA team over time, including setting the standard for software quality.
Experience and qualifications
- Mortgage operations experience such as processing, underwriting, closing, post-closing, or QC, with the ability to recognize when screen data does not reconcile with the loan file.
- Hands-on experience with a loan origination system such as Encompass, Empower, or Byte.
- QA or software testing experience, including manual test design, exploratory testing, regression suites, or release verification.
- Comfort with light test automation and willingness to write and maintain simple Playwright, Cypress, or Selenium scripts, or learn them quickly.
- Strong attention to detail, clear written communication, and process-oriented thinking.
- Comfort with structured data and developer tools such as JSON, API responses, browser dev tools, and logs.
Preferred background
- Experience in a regulated or financial software environment.
- Prior team lead, training, or SOP-writing experience, including onboarding new hires, running calibration sessions, or building QA programs from scratch.
- Curiosity about AI and how it is changing mortgage workflows.
Benefits
- Robust medical coverage with 100% of employee and family premiums covered.
- Vision and dental coverage.
- 401(k).
- HSA and FSA options.
- Access to the lender partner's employee loan program.
- Remote-first culture.
- Flexible time off.
