About the Role
This opportunity is for a Director of Compliance - Product who combines strong legal judgment, product compliance expertise, and cross-functional leadership. This role sits at the intersection of compliance, product development, technology, and consumer financial services, ensuring compliance is built into products from the earliest design stages rather than treated as a final checkpoint.
The Director of Compliance - Product will work closely with product managers, engineers, data teams, UX designers, senior leadership, and the Chief Compliance Officer to help build and scale a strong product compliance function. The role requires a forward-thinking compliance leader who can use AI, RegTech, automation, and strong regulatory judgment to improve product review, regulatory monitoring, compliance assessment, documentation, and post-launch oversight.
This is a fast-paced role for someone who can help teams move quickly while maintaining a high standard of regulatory compliance, consumer protection, and responsible product design.
Employment Type: Full Time
Compensation: $175,000 - $220,000 per year, including base and variable compensation
What You’ll Do
- Own and drive the product compliance function end to end for new and existing product features.
- Ensure product features comply with applicable federal and state laws and regulations related to consumer lending, buy now pay later products, and payment products.
- Serve as the embedded compliance partner supporting the Product team throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Advise product teams on compliance requirements from ideation through launch and post-launch iteration.
- Champion the use of AI-powered compliance and RegTech tools, including automated regulatory change monitoring, AI-assisted product review workflows, and smart audit trail systems.
- Use AI and automation to help scale product compliance capacity and provide deeper analytical coverage across the product portfolio.
- Use AI research tools to stay current on regulatory developments affecting consumer-facing product features.
- Monitor regulatory developments related to FCRA, TILA/Reg Z, EFTA/Reg E, UDAAP, ECOA/Reg B, TCPA, state consumer protection laws, and emerging BNPL regulations.
- Partner with product leadership to anticipate regulatory changes and sequence compliance work alongside product feature development.
- Help ensure product teams are prepared for new or changing compliance requirements before they affect product releases.
- Conduct product-level regulatory compliance risk assessments for new features and product changes.
- Identify control gaps, evaluate the compliance impact of product decisions, and develop risk mitigation strategies.
- Support business speed while ensuring product teams do not cut corners on compliance requirements.
- Develop and maintain product compliance standards and control frameworks.
- Translate regulatory requirements into product design decisions, feature specifications, and release criteria.
- Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and UX designers to turn compliance requirements into actionable acceptance criteria.
- Create practical user story guardrails and implementation guidance that product and engineering teams can execute.
- Lead product-level compliance review and sign-off for features involving consumer disclosures, adverse action, credit reporting, payment authorization, marketing claims, and data use.
- Ensure each relevant product release meets applicable compliance requirements before launch.
- Establish and oversee post-launch product compliance monitoring protocols.
- Assess whether deployed features are operating as intended from a regulatory standpoint.
- Identify product defects, compliance drift, or post-launch issues that require corrective action.
- Ensure product compliance issues are properly recorded, tracked, escalated, and remediated.
- Assign clear ownership and timelines for remediation across product and engineering teams.
- Prepare and communicate product compliance reporting for senior leadership and the Chief Compliance Officer.
- Translate product-level compliance status and risk exposure into clear, executive-ready insights.
- Develop and deliver product compliance training and awareness programs for product managers, engineers, and designers.
- Use AI-assisted tools and digital formats to build compliance fluency across product development teams.
- Promote a product culture where compliance is treated as a quality standard and competitive advantage, not as a blocker.
- Help product teams build consumer trust through responsible design and strong compliance practices.
Qualifications
- J.D. degree is required.
- At least 8 years of experience in a compliance leadership role within fintech, banking, or financial services.
- Hands-on experience using AI compliance and RegTech tools to streamline and scale product compliance work.
- Experience with AI-assisted product review workflows, compliance workflow automation, or similar technology-enabled compliance processes.
- Strong working knowledge of consumer financial protection regulations relevant to product features.
- Experience with TILA/Reg Z, FCRA, EFTA/Reg E, ECOA/Reg B, UDAAP, TCPA, and applicable state consumer protection laws.
- Familiarity with evolving buy now pay later regulatory guidance is a significant plus.
- Experience participating in or supporting regulatory examinations, compliance audits, or supervisory reviews.
- Ability to speak credibly about product design decisions and the compliance controls embedded within them.
- Experience operating effectively in agile product development environments.
- Ability to translate regulatory requirements into product specifications, acceptance criteria, or technical control requirements that engineering teams can execute.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to assess compliance risk at both the feature level and portfolio level.
- Comfort working with product data, user flows, and technical documentation.
- Strong organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent product reviews, compliance workstreams, and stakeholder relationships without losing accuracy or momentum.
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with competing priorities and evolving direction.
- Self-starter who takes ownership, drives initiatives to completion, and proactively raises awareness when challenges arise.
- Excellent proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and AI productivity tools.
- Demonstrated experience working with Claude or equivalent large language model tools is required.
- Comfort using AI to improve productivity, research, communication, compliance analysis, and workflow efficiency.
- Compliance certifications such as CCEP or CRCM are preferred.
