Staff Software Engineer, Platform

About the Role
This opportunity is for a Staff Software Engineer, Platform focused on building reliable, secure, and scalable systems that support both users and engineering teams. The Platform team owns key areas across reliability, security, compliance, and developer experience, supporting a growing engineering organization.
This role is ideal for an experienced engineer who can balance speed with safety, drive technical vision, mentor others, and architect systems that scale as the platform grows. You will work on platform infrastructure, developer tooling, observability, incident response, and long-term reliability across production systems.
Status: Full-Time
Work Arrangement: Remote – USA; office options available in San Francisco, CA and New York, NY
Pay: $210,000 – $278,000 per year. Equity is also included.
What You’ll Do
- Architect future versions of key systems, including databases, distributed jobs, and other core platform services
- Design platform architecture with current and future scaling needs in mind
- Design and implement developer tooling that makes development and deployments safer, reproducible, and easier to roll out
- Drive excellence in observability and monitoring across production systems
- Guide incident response to ensure issues are resolved quickly and the team maintains a strong on-call experience
- Collaborate with engineering teams to maintain high technical quality across systems
- Address technical debt, upgrades, and platform improvements across the engineering organization
- Mentor engineers on designing reliable and fault-tolerant systems
- Help engineers build easy-to-use runbooks for operational issues and production incidents
Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience with backend technologies in a public cloud environment
- Proven track record of scaling and troubleshooting production systems or services
- Experience leading cross-functional technical projects with business impact
- Deep understanding of end-to-end request flow and how system components interact across the stack
- Ability to reason about performance, reliability, and failure modes across frontend, CDN/WAF, load balancing, and backend services
- Strong fundamental knowledge of SLAs and SLOs
- Ability to implement reliability practices in a fast-paced engineering environment
- Experience managing technical debt and improving engineering quality across multiple teams
Nice to Have
- Experience with OpenTelemetry, StatsD, or Prometheus
- Working knowledge of compliance frameworks such as PCI and SOC 2
- Experience with infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation
- Familiarity with Sidekiq, Redis, or other asynchronous job processing systems
- Experience with mobile app infrastructure such as Capacitor or React Native
- Experience building internal tooling or bots that improve engineering workflows
- Interest in financial services, accounting, or self-employment products
