About the Role
This opportunity is for a highly detail-oriented Tax Compliance Specialist who will support federal, state, and local tax compliance activities. This is a hands-on individual contributor position focused on tax filings, tax payments, agency registrations, account reconciliations, tax notices, and ongoing compliance documentation.
The role involves performing day-to-day tax compliance work and ensuring that filings and payments are completed accurately and on schedule. It is not a management position and does not include payroll processing responsibilities.
Candidates based near Atlanta who are available to work from the office occasionally are preferred. Remote candidates will also be considered.
What You’ll Do
- Prepare, review, and file federal, state, and local tax returns accurately and on time.
- Process tax payments and remittances through government agency websites and electronic filing systems.
- Complete manual tax filings when required by federal, state, or local tax agencies.
- Retrieve, validate, and analyze tax data from internal systems to support filing and compliance activities.
- Reconcile tax liabilities, payments, filings, and agency account balances.
- Research and resolve tax notices, inquiries, discrepancies, and agency correspondence.
- Maintain tax filing calendars and track all applicable filing deadlines.
- Update and maintain tax rates, filing frequencies, account information, and agency records.
- Register businesses with federal, state, and local tax agencies as needed.
- Work directly within tax agency portals to manage filings, payments, registrations, and account maintenance.
- Review source data and supporting documentation to confirm filing accuracy.
- Document tax procedures and recommend process improvements where appropriate.
- Support tax audits by preparing and providing requested records and documentation.
- Maintain detailed tax compliance records, filing histories, and supporting documentation.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Three to five or more years of hands-on federal, state, and local tax compliance experience.
- Demonstrated experience preparing and filing tax returns.
- Experience processing tax payments and remittances through agency websites and tax portals.
- Experience completing manual tax filings in addition to automated filing processes.
- Strong experience researching and resolving tax notices and agency correspondence.
- Experience reconciling tax liabilities, payments, filings, and account balances.
- Ability to independently manage multiple filing deadlines and competing priorities.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience using tax compliance software and electronic filing platforms.
- Experience registering business entities with federal, state, and local tax agencies.
- Experience supporting multi-state tax compliance activities.
- Experience working with SAP.
