Position Overview
This senior cross-functional leadership position is responsible for driving the performance and growth of an Inspections, Testing, and Maintenance software solution serving fire, emergency medical services, and public safety organizations.
The Director of Business Strategy will coordinate initiatives across Product, Sales, Marketing, Implementation, Support, and Customer Success. The role focuses on revenue growth, customer retention, product adoption, regulatory compliance within relevant authorities having jurisdiction, and expansion of market share.
This position serves as the primary owner of the product line’s overall business performance. Responsibilities include helping establish strategy, removing operational barriers, developing partnerships, and maintaining alignment across all participating teams.
The portfolio may expand or change as the organization grows. The successful candidate will be comfortable working in an evolving environment and taking ownership of initiatives that may not fall within a single functional department.
The primary objective is to accelerate market-share growth and establish the product as a recognized market leader.
What You’ll Do
Product and Market Strategy
- Represent the business needs and strategic priorities of the Inspections, Testing, and Maintenance product line.
- Provide strategic input into the product roadmap, market positioning, and competitive differentiation.
- Partner with Product Management to identify feature gaps and prioritize improvements based on competitor capabilities and market needs.
- Help establish and execute strategies designed to increase revenue, retention, adoption, compliance, and market penetration.
Sales and Marketing Enablement
- Partner with Sales leadership to monitor pipeline activity, revenue forecasts, and win-and-loss trends.
- Collect insights from the sales organization and communicate relevant findings to the product team to help inform roadmap decisions.
- Educate sales representatives and sales leaders about the product, its capabilities, and its market positioning.
- Create sales messaging, talk tracks, and other enablement materials as needed.
- Lead go-to-market initiatives, including case studies, webinars, trade shows, conferences, events, and thought-leadership programs.
- Collaborate with Marketing to position the product as a market leader within a broader software platform.
- Support pipeline creation by developing campaign calendars, marketing collateral, and awareness-building initiatives.
- Attend relevant conferences and industry events to increase market awareness and support business-development efforts.
Partnerships and Ecosystem Development
- Identify, evaluate, and develop go-to-market and solution partnerships, particularly those involving compliance and inspection workflows.
- Build and manage relationships with third-party service providers, including contractors and inspectors.
- Develop partnerships with compliance organizations, billing providers, government entities, authorities having jurisdiction, and potential integration partners.
- Prioritize partnership opportunities involving contractor software platforms and related technology providers.
Customer Success and Product Adoption
- Partner with Implementation and Support teams to ensure customer onboarding timelines and satisfaction benchmarks are achieved.
- Ensure relevant service providers understand the platform, complete onboarding, and actively use the available tools.
- Drive submission compliance across implemented authorities having jurisdiction.
- Identify major adoption barriers across the product portfolio and lead cross-functional efforts to resolve them.
- Work with Customer Success teams to identify cross-sell, upsell, and account-expansion opportunities within the existing customer base.
Business Reporting and Cross-Functional Leadership
- Prepare and present monthly business reviews to the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer.
- Communicate progress, risks, resource needs, business challenges, and executive-level requests across the product portfolio.
- Track revenue growth, customer retention, compliance, adoption, and market-penetration metrics across each product line.
- Maintain alignment between Product, Sales, Marketing, Implementation, Support, and Customer Success.
- Serve as the central cross-functional leader responsible for keeping strategic and operational initiatives coordinated and moving forward.
- Drive performance across all functional areas, regardless of whether the candidate’s primary background is in sales, product, business development, or another discipline.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- At least seven years of experience in SaaS product strategy, business development, go-to-market strategy, or a closely related role.
- Professional expertise in public safety, fire and life safety compliance, or another closely related regulated industry.
- Demonstrated ability to lead initiatives across Product, Sales, Marketing, and Customer Experience functions.
- Strong understanding of SaaS growth metrics and performance drivers, including annual recurring revenue, retention, adoption, upselling, and account expansion.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to influence executive leaders, internal stakeholders, customers, partners, and external organizations.
- Experience developing competitive positioning and executing market strategy within a fast-growing SaaS environment.
- Ability to take ownership of business performance, remove blockers, and coordinate work across teams without relying on direct functional authority.
- Comfort working with evolving responsibilities, changing portfolio priorities, and organizational ambiguity.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with National Fire Protection Association standards, regulatory compliance workflows, or fire-inspection industry practices.
- Previous experience with Inspections, Testing, and Maintenance processes.
- Knowledge of authority-having-jurisdiction compliance requirements within public safety environments.
- Experience managing or supporting partnerships with contractors, inspectors, authorities having jurisdiction, government entities, or related organizations.
- Master of Business Administration degree or an equivalent strategic and analytical background.
