Compensation: $21.00–$23.00 per hour
Reporting To: Accounts Payable Team Lead
About the Role
This remote Accounts Payable Specialist I position is responsible for processing state surplus lines tax filings, reports, and payments. The role also maintains accurate financial records, resolves client credits and refunds, and supports compliance with state regulatory requirements.
This opportunity is suited to a detail-oriented professional who can manage multiple priorities, maintain accuracy in a high-volume environment, and communicate effectively with clients, state agencies, and internal teams.
What You’ll Do
- Complete state surplus lines tax filings, reports, and payments accurately and on time
- Reconcile client invoices, billing reports, and related financial records
- Research and resolve client credits, refunds, and payment discrepancies
- Maintain accurate documentation and records related to tax filings and accounting transactions
- Support the maintenance and improvement of accounting processes and standard operating procedures
- Provide customer service and support to clients, state agencies, and internal teams regarding filing- and payment-related inquiries
- Maintain working knowledge of state surplus lines laws, tax filing requirements, and compliance regulations
- Assist with reporting and reconciliation activities to ensure data accuracy and completeness
- Manage multiple priorities while maintaining a high level of accuracy in a fast-paced environment
- Perform additional duties as requested, directed, or assigned
Qualifications
- Associate degree in Accounting or equivalent experience preferred
- Experience in the surplus lines or insurance industry preferred
- Knowledge of general accounting principles and practices
- Understanding of confidentiality requirements related to financial information
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, and Adobe applications
- Experience with NetSuite or similar accounting software preferred
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a high-volume environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
