In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-5300 Industrial Equipment Maintenance Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is: Ability to Lead or Supervise. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprinting reading) Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Materials Trouble shooting PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The incumbent frequently performs heavy lifting, pulling, carrying of equipment and material weighing 25 pound and over with the help of weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers. Work requires frequent bending, stooping, reaching, crouching, standing, and arm movement. Sometimes must work in awkward positions or in restricted spaces where coordination of hands, legs, and body are needed to perform tasks. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed both inside and outside. Inside work involves frequent exposure to drafts, changing temperatures, and loud noise. Outside work may involve exposure to bad weather, rain, or snow, or wet or icy conditions. Inside and outside work may frequently expose the incumbent to irritation or discomfort from dust, heat, fumes, and hard damp floors or surfaces. May work on parts and systems which are dirty and greasy, and which may be dangerous to operate or repair because of defects. Incumbent is frequently exposed to the possibility of receiving cuts, burns, bruises, strains, and electrical shock while repairing, positioning, adjusting, and moving equipment and is exposed to the possibility of receiving burns and skin irritations from acids, fluids, and lubricants. To reduce the dangers and irritations from the above conditions, the incumbent must follow numerous safety procedures and wear equipment such as protective eyeglasses, hearing devices, hard hats, had toe shoes, respirators, gloves, and clothing. Some of these safety items maybe uncomfortable to wear or use and may be worn or used for long periods of time.

The primary purpose of this position, POWERED SUPPORT SYSTEMS MECHANIC LEADER, WL-5378-11, is to lead three or more Powered Support Equipment mechanics in performing depot level overhaul, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical power production equipment and associated components, electrical distribution equipment, engines, bomb lifts, mules, and trailers.
