Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes responding to alarms and combats fires utilizing knowledge of the proper firefighting and rescue techniques; operating alarm room equipment (e.g., multi-channel radio console, computer systems, telephone systems, recording systems, etc.) and fire reporting devices; participating in training exercises (i.e., classroom and practical); containing and controlling toxic, hazardous and/or dangerous materials; performing inspections for fire hazards in areas such as, quarters, administrative buildings, barracks, warehouses, industrial shops, places of public assembly, and outside storage areas. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). In addition to meeting the specialized experience requirement above, applicants must also possess Firefighter I, Firefighter II, and Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations OR Technician certified through DoD Fire and Emergency Services Certification System, International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), or the Fire Service Professional Qualifications System (PRO-Board) in accordance with DoD 6055.06-M AND a State of Virginia or National Registry Emergency Medical Technician Intermediate or higher Certification Card indicating a future expiration date. Additional Required Certificates: This position requires Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification. This position requires Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Emergency Communication Emergency Response Fire Prevention, Inspection, and Code Compliance Fire Suppression Firefighting Equipment Inspection, Testing, and Maintenance
