The Office of Personnel Management’s (OPM’s) group qualification standards covering white collar occupations in the Federal competitive service can be found: Here GS-08 grade level: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-07) in federal, state, local, private or other service that has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA’s) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience for this position is defined as: (1) Providing guidance and technical direction for accomplishing the work of the unit or team; (2) Ensuring work assignments of employees in the unit or team are carried out; (3) Working with team members to meet routine and unusual deadlines and priorities; (4) Maintaining personnel files and processing personnel action. There is no educational substitution for the GS-08 grade level. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
This position is located within the Office of Human Capital Services, Office of Staff Operations (OSO), Human Resources Center (HRC), located in Detroit, Michigan. This position serves as a Lead HR Assistant (Recruitment and Placement) responsible for assigning work delegated to the Human Resources Assistants in an equitable manner, ensuring accurate and timely completion of work, as well as providing coding, recruitment and staffing support to the employees of Veterans Benefits Administration.
