Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience for GS-05: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) assisting with preventative equipment maintenance; OR 2) assisting with field surveys. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor’s degree (a) with major study in an appropriate field of engineering, construction, or industrial technology; OR (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as engineering, engineering or industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, surveying, physical science, or mathematics. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. Specialized Experience for GS-06: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) coordinating preventative maintenance and safety of equipment; OR 2) using surveying techniques and guidelines. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). Specialized Experience for GS-07: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) coordinating preventative maintenance and safety of equipment; AND 2) using surveying techniques and guidelines; AND 3) Working in a team environment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). Specialized Experience for GS-08: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Using surveying techniques and guidelines; 2) Analyzing and interpreting field data results; AND 3) Using Windows-based data acquisition and editing systems, such as Hypack Software. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). Specialized Experience for GS-09: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Using hydrographic surveying techniques and guidelines; 2) Operating, troubleshooting, and maintaining a wide range of field surveying instruments; 3) Coordinating hydrographic survey operations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08). This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Independently conducts surveys of the districts navigation channels to locate shoaling channel deficiencies, sunken vessels or obstructions that may interfere with use of the waterway. Directs the use of equipment, vessels, and personnel to gather information on channel conditions.
