To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-08: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Receive request for procedure or treatment; interpret physician’s requests or instructions; set controls and operate the equipment to get test or treatment results. Clean and sterilize instruments and conduct routine maintenance and adjustment checks. Instruct other technicians, physicians, nurses and others in the use of the equipment. Decide how to adapt the instrument to the patient based on information gained through previous experience, observation, and results. Provide diagnostic or treatment services to acutely ill patients. SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: Professional knowledge of physiology and cross-sectional human anatomy for both adult and pediatric care. This includes an in-depth understanding of the functioning of the major systems and internal organs to interpret requests and to recognize the need for additional tests or a different position/examination as evidenced by registration with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS). Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements by the respective cut-off date for application review.
This position serves as a Medical Instrument Technician (Ultrasound) in the Radiology Department of the Pine Ridge Service Unit in Pine Ridge, SD. The incumbent performs a wide range of complex ultrasound studies to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of patient diseases and supports a 24-hour Radiology Department. The position is subject to on-call/call-back status and reports to the Radiology Supervisor.
