Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. To qualify at the GS-04 grade level: One year of general experience. General experience is progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled, such as,utilizing personal computer and multi-lined telephone. OR Education: Two years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of by 60. Add the two percentages. To qualify at the GS-05 grade level: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience using a computer keyboard to operate a variety of computer software and receiving dispatch calls. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. To qualify at the GS-06 grade level: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience receiving and evaluating emergency calls; and questioning callers to determine problem/nature of call to dispatch appropriate personnel and equipment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). To qualify at the GS-07 grade level: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience receiving and evaluating 911 calls; determine problem/nature of call in order to dispatch appropriate emergency personnel and equipment; and providing basic instructions prior to arrival of responders. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/ level position in the federal service (GS-06). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Manages and Organizes Information Reasoning (Clerical/Technical) Speaking Technical Competence No Time in Grade Requirement at the GS-04 and GS-05 grade levels.GS-06 Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05). GS-07 Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).

About the Position: This position provides emergency response dispatching of law enforcement, fire and emergency medical services to the public by answering emergency 911 calls and responding with appropriate personnel and equipment. The work is performed in a highly stressful restricted office environment.
