In addition to the Basic Education Requirement (in the Education section below), to qualify for this position you must meet the requirements below. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. To qualify for GS-12, you must have: you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level: Supporting the design and construction activities for mechanical systems such as; high and low pressure steam, chilled water, domestic water, and/or HVAC systems in accordance with applicable mechanical codes and regulations; Leading or supporting engineering, planning, or design to fulfill project objectives; Providing support for the design and construction activities for industrial control systems under the direction of a lead mechanical engineer. To qualify for GS-13, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level: Utilize applicable mechanical codes and regulations to create Mechanical Engineering designs (drawings and details) and specifications for HVAC and Plumbing Systems and Institutional mechanical equipment (e.g., Air Handlers, Chillers, Cooling towers, Pumps, etc.); Generate and/or apply theories, principles, practical concepts, systems, and processes related to some or all of the following areas: The science of mechanical engineering (e.g., design, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and heat transfer), design standards, industry codes, and techniques; Monitoring contracted work and working with engineers to perform various duties such as: planning, designing, testing and evaluating, cost analyses, program and project management, or quality management for projects. As a General Engineer with the Facilities Engineering and Construction Branch, you will serve as the mechanical engineer for all facilities at the Greenbelt campus of the Goddard Space Flight Center. You will support the lead mechanical engineer and engineering branch head in overseeing all campus mechanical system design and construction projects to include high and low pressure steam, chilled and domestic water, compressed air, HVAC systems, and specialty lab requirements.
