Minimum Qualifications Requirements: To qualify for this position, you must meet the (1) General Requirements, (2) Medical Requirements, (3) Licenses/Certifications, and (4) Specialized Experience for the grade to which you are applying. (1) General Requirements: Not more than two separate incidents involving Federal aviation regulations violations in the last 5 years; Valid State driver’s license; Fluency in the English language; No chemical dependencies or drug abuse that could interfere with job performance; and High school diploma or equivalent. (2) Medical Requirements: Applicants must be physically able to perform the duties of the Aviation Safety Inspector position in a safe and efficient manner, and must meet all of the following requirements: Have good distant vision in each eye and be able to read printed materials the size of typewritten characters (glasses and contact lenses permitted) without strain; Have the ability to hear the conversational voice (hearing aid permitted); Not have any physical condition that would cause them to be a hazard to themselves or others or that would interfere with their ability to fly as passengers in a variety of aircraft. (3) Licenses/Certifications: This position requires the following licenses and/or certifications in order to meet the conditions of employment. FAA part 107 Remote Pilot Certificates. OAS-30U; DOI Remote Pilot Cards. (4) Specialized Experience: To qualify for the GS-13, you must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal service, or comparable experience not gained through Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience is defined as demonstrated experience: Experience working on field aviation projects and/or assistance with training or UAS projects. Experience utilizing fire management strategies, tactics; and using various types of aviation resources and fire prevention and mitigation procedures. Experience working on UAS training and policy implementation related to uncrewed aircraft systems. Experience working with fleet UAS and/or with vendor provided equipment and personnel. Experience planning and executing training events in a classroom setting or in operation pilot training environment. Merit Promotion candidates must also meet Time-In-Grade requirements by the closing date of the vacancy announcement. Firefighter Special Retirement: This is a SECONDARY/ADMINISTRATIVE fire position under the special retirement provisions of 5 U.S.C. 8336(c) (CSRS) and 5 U.S.C. 8412(d) (FERS). While secondary positions are not subject to the maximum entry age (MEA) policy, the selectee must have prior service in a primary position and meet the transfer requirement for movement from a primary to secondary position to be eligible for special retirement coverage. It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure this office has enough information to determine your retirement status to ensure you do not lose benefits (normally through submission of your SF-50). YOU MUST LET US KNOW IF YOU ARE CURRENTLY IN A PRIMARY POSITION.
Promotion NTE: This is a not-to-exceed one (1) year temporary promotion assignment. This temporary promotion may be extended without further competition; however, it may not exceed a total of five (5) years. This temporary promotion may be made permanent without further competition per management discretion.
