Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is the ability to perform the duties of a Deckhand as demonstrated by experience working under close supervision using knowledge of safe mooring practices, watercraft docking/undocking, line handling, Maritime/Marine Industry language and terms to perform the following: 1) Assisting in docking/undocking and/or mooring, 2) Handling lines, cables, and/or rigging. 2) Communicating with captains, coxswains, pilots, dockmasters, and/or port operations personnel using radios and/or visual communication using maritime terms and language. 3) Assisting in guiding and securing pier platforms, gangways, barges, fenders, and other berthing support equipment. 4) Conducting pre-operational checks and inspections on craft, work boats, barrier boats and other waterborne craft Applicants must meet the requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Job Qualification Handbook for Trades and Labor Occupations. You will serve as a Deckhand within Joint Region Marianas (JRM), Naval Base Guam (NBG), Port Operations Department. The duty station is Santa Rita, Guam.
