Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic without more than normal supervision which include: 1) Perform complex repairs and maintenance of heavy duty vehicles and mobile equipment; 2) Interpret and apply technical manuals and manufacturers specifications to conduct repairs; 3) Install parts such as pistons, valves, bearing, gears and cylinders to appropriate tolerances and make modifications in accordance with specifications and guidelines; and 4) Operate tractor trailers under limited traffic conditions at low speed. – Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above. – Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading) Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Trouble Shooting PHYSICAL EFFORT: Works in tiring or uncomfortable positions for long periods. Work requires frequent bending, reaching, stretching, climbing, and crouching. At times, works on top of or under vehicles in cramped or awkward positions. Performs strenuous work while standing, lying or sitting. Frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds, and often puts forth similar effort in pushing, pulling and depressing of various hand and foot controls. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed inside and occasionally outside and subject to extreme weather conditions, in cramped and awkward positions; shop area is frequently inadequately heated; work is dirty, greasy and noisy; possibility exists for injury from dropped units and parts, slipping tools, slipping from work position. Inside work is usually performed on concrete floors and involves frequent exposure to exhaust fumes. Prescribed safety practices and safety equipment is used; protective hearing devices, hard hats, hard-toe shoes, gloves, respirators, and protective clothing. Some of these safety items may be uncomfortable to wear or use, and may be worn or used for long periods.

About the Position: This position is located in the Tank-Automotive and Armament Command (TACOM) ILSC Field Support Operations, Fleet Management Expansion (FMX).
