GS-09 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience conducting conventional surveys to identify unsafe practices and working conditions; evaluating the nature and characteristics of hazardous exposures; and preparing reports based on survey findings and analysis of accident trends. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master’s or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene), or master’s or equivalent graduate degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. Time in Grade Requirement for the GS-09: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07). GS-11 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience preparing formal training materials to communicate standard safety and occupational health techniques to participants; providing guidance to supervisors and employees on safety and occupational health standards within operational environments; inspecting environmental conditions to identify hazards; inspecting employee performance patterns to identify hazards; and identifying elements contributing to human and machine failure that lead to injury or property damage. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene), or Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. About the Position: This position is with the Joint Munitions Command located at McAlester Army Ammunition Plant. This position serves as a Safety and Occupational Health Specialist, responsible for managing a program designed to mitigate hazards that cause injuries to personnel and damage to property within the occupational environment.
